You will need:

  • A4 paper

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • A ruler

  • Black felt tip or marker

  • A pencil

  • Coloured pens or pencils

Make your headdress base

First take a piece of A4 paper and draw a shape like you see in the picture below for the front of your headdress - or you can download the templates. Next for the back and top parts of your headdress take another piece of paper and copy the shapes in the second picture below. The long strip will be to fix the headdress around your head.

When you have drawn or printed out your shapes, cut them out so you end up with:

  • The front shape

  • The back strip

  • The three top pieces - one for the middle, one for the left and one for the right.

Fix together your headdress base

To fix all the pieces together, you need to first take the front shape and fold over the two straight strips, cross them over slightly and glue them together. This will form the front shape.

You then take the long strip and glue each side to the front shape, measuring that it fits nicely around your head. Finally you will take your smaller pieces and fix them to the front part by using the small tabs at the bottom. Your finished base should look like this:

Time to make the chicks!

So that you can decorate the base of your headdress you now need to create some Easter chick designs. We have a template you can print out and use, or you can draw your own designs. Remember they all need to be pieces that you can cut out, and you may want more than one of the same design like the example . Also think about adding a wing design, some flowers, Easter eggs - anything that you might want to decorate your hat with! You will need quite a few pieces. Once you have printed out or designed your decorative shapes, colour them in then cut them out.

Fix your cut outs to your headdress

Finally you need to fix your designs to your headdress. Use the different layers of the headdress base to really give the effect of height and stick all the chick faces, feathers and eggs around the hat like in the pictures below.
