Carnival Education for Luton

Developing of a Vibrant Schools Programme

UKCCA has a long-standing school programme that has taken many forms over the years in response to the changing needs of schools. In response to schools returning to face-to-face teaching after national lockdowns, we worked with our UK partners to develop ‘National Children’s Carnival Week’, a new initiative to bring joy and creativity back to learning in the classroom.  

The 2021 pilot year of the programme enabled us to assess the need of schools and students and updated expectations by Ofsted. In 2022, with the support of the Royal Opera House Bridge’s Learning Development Fund, we will be developing more ambitious, dynamic and inclusive learning, working with local schools too,

      Develop a more comprehensive learning section on our website. 

Develop Artsmark and Arts Award resources and promote our service as an Arts Award centre.

Standardise our free activities and adapt for key stages and different age levels.  

Develop a structured training programme with progression pathways for artists delivering in schools and designing school resources. 

 We will do this by,

Dedicating focused time to developing.

Facilitate teacher focus groups to review resources and lesson plans.

Develop our learning pages on our website to be more accessible for teachers.

Funding artists to complete CPD and in-classroom training.

Delivering CPD sessions for teachers.  

The Impact  

Children will be happier and healthier through a rich creative learning experience. 

Schools will have access to and be confident in using quality resources that promote artistic and cultural diversity in Luton.

More local artists will be trained to strengthen their future work prospects.
