How to make a carnival inspired Easter Lamb headdress

Easter is a time for celebrating new life, where the trees start to bud, the sun starts to shine and we see the first flowers of the year start to appear. Our artists have created a bright and joyful Easter Lamb inspired carnival headdress which you can make at home or in school to celebrate the Easter holiday.

You will need:

  • A4 paper

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • A ruler

  • Black felt tip or marker

  • A pencil

  • Coloured pens or pencils

Make your headdress base

The first step is to make a base for your headdress. You can print out the templates on our handy PDF instruction booklet - just click on the button below.

If you don’t have a printer, you can create the designs yourself.

Simply take a piece of A4 paper and 8cm from the edge draw a shape like you see in the picture below. Next draw a straight line 8cm from the other edge. Cut out the pieces which are shaded in in the picture below, and you will be left with part 1 which is the front of your base (shaded pink) and part 2 which is the back of your base (shaded yellow).

Next you need to create the other parts of your headdress base.

Get another piece of A4 paper and fold it in half lengthways. Where you have folded it draw a line. Next measure halfway between the left hand part, and draw another line. You will want to then cut along your two lines so you end up with three more pieces. There will be two smaller strips (shaded green) - these ones you need to keep to form the top of your headdress. The larger piece (shaded purple) you can recycle or use for another art project.

Glue the base together

To fix all the pieces together, you need to first take part 1 (the shape with the top of heart shape cut out, shaded pink in the picture) and glue it to part 2 (the long strip shaded yellow in the first picture) in a round circle. You may wish to measure it around your head, or work with a friend so you can get the right size for your heads. Next, you will glue your two smaller strips (shaded green in the picture) to the hat base at the top left to right, and front to back like in the pictures below.

Time to decorate!

Now it is time for the fun bit! Decorate your headdress base with Easter Lamb themed cut outs. You can create your own picture of a lamb's face and your own flower designs, or print out our template.

Once you have drawn or printed out your design, colour them in using a range of bright colours - yellow, pink, light green and blue all give the feeling of Spring.

Fix your designs to your headdress

Next you need to fix your cut out designs to your headdress. Glue the lamb face to the front of your headdress. You can then surround the lamb with flowers, eggs, carrots - whatever you think looks nice!
