Welcome to Luton International Carnival 2022

Welcome to the official launch of Luton International Carnival 2022! Here is a statement from Clary Salandy, Artistic Director to any interested participating groups.

“Welcome to the Luton International Carnival 2022 (LIC22). In 2022, the Carnival is in partnership with Luton Council. We are back in The Town Centre! We have temporarily moved to the 4th June as the highlight of Luton’s Platinum Jubilee weekend celebrations.

“Carnival in Luton is an amazing participatory experience. Our mission is to enrich the culture of Luton by presenting the highest quality Carnival Arts created in the heart of the community. Carnival is a special opportunity to showcase and nurture the best talent from our diverse communities. Carnival is craft based learning that celebrates identities while uniting diverse communities. We are working towards a greener carnival. We are looking for intriguing design ideas and performances to enchant and inspire our audiences within our family friendly atmosphere.

“We would like you to use this opportunity to up your creative game, explore new ways to make your portrayal unique and engaging for your members while captivating our audience. Let’s use Carnival Arts to inspire and upskill the next generation so that they can contribute to making Luton Carnival 2022, the most amazing spectacle of Carnival ever!”

Message from the Chief Executive of Luton Council

“We’re absolutely delighted to be supporting Luton International Carnival which will be particularly special this year as it is back in town after a difficult two years for all of us. A fantastic family-friendly celebration of Luton's diversity helping us all to live happy and healthy lives.  I can’t wait to take part and am delighted to join the parade again.

As well as having national prominence, Carnival is one of Luton’s most well-loved events, with a vibrant and colourful history of bringing communities together in a spectacle of colour and sound. We’re really looking forward to seeing the fantastic range of costumes and floats designed by you, our residents, in celebration of this year’s theme: Our World, Our Future.”

Robin Porter, Chief Executive Luton Council

A big thank you to this year’s primary funder Luton Rising, without who’s support the carnival would not have been possible.

We would also like to thank our other funders and supporters including Arts Council England, Luton BID, Love Luton, The Mall Luton, and Luton Irish Forum.

Also a huge thank you to the hundreds of returning volunteers who took to the streets to support the parade, making it a really special day for thousands of families.
