‘Our World, Our Future’ Luton International Carnival 2022 Theme

Children from Luton's Afghan refugee community

The theme for Luton International Carnival 2022 was Our World, Our Future.

The theme allowed for a wide range of creative expression from a celebration of the Queens Platinum Jubilee, the Commonwealth, the beauty of nature to climate change and aspirations for our world in the future. Open creative workshops were put on every Saturday during April and May 2022, to assist groups with realising their designs.

Our theme for 2022 also had special significance to the children and families that face uncertainty in the UK post pandemic.

Internationally, our thoughts are with those families who continue to endure and to those that face the prospect of conflict.

Despite this, it is fitting to pay our commemorations and celebrations to the 70 years of peace in Europe during the Queens reign. International Relations can enhance friendship, trade, migration, exploration of diverse cultures, economic development and unity amongst communities as the world strives to become a brotherhood of people.

A big thank you to this year’s primary funder Luton Rising, without who’s support the carnival would not have been possible.

We would also like to thank our other funders and supporters including Arts Council England, Luton BID, Love Luton, The Mall Luton, and Luton Irish Forum.

Also a huge thank you to the hundreds of returning volunteers who took to the streets to support the parade, making it a really special day for thousands of families.
