Klaudia Kulakiewicz

Klaudia at Luton International Carnival 2019

Klaudia is a Luton-based visual artist and costume designer whose work is rooted in colour, creativity and community. Born in Poland and raised in Luton from the age of six, she brings more than a decade of carnival-making experience to every project — creating spaces where people come together through shared joy and imagination.

Her carnival journey began with the Polonia Carnival Group, where she took the lead in designing and creating costumes and bringing volunteers together to celebrate Polish culture within Luton’s vibrant carnival scene. Since then, she has collaborated with a range of communities, including designing a distinctive Dracula costume for the Romanian community and performing with ALIF New Beginnings, where her energy and love of carnival shine through every step.

With foam, feathers and flight as her working palette, Klaudia guides community making sessions — supporting families, young people and work-experience students to dive into carnival arts through headdress workshops, costume-making sessions and participatory design. Her aim is simple: to turn ideas into wearable celebrations and invite everyone to feel part of the party.

As a recipient of the Develop Your Creative Practice (DYCP) Grant, Klaudia continues to refine her craft, explore new materials and deepen her collaboration with local groups. She is proud to serve as an Associate Artist of the UK Centre for Carnival Arts, working to spread smiles, spark creativity and build bridges between cultures — one parade step, one feather, one laugh at a time.

Klaudia and her achievements were featured as part of the ‘Many Voices, One Town’ campaign by Luton Council in 2018.
