National Children's Carnival Week Safeguarding Statement

All carnivals contributing to National Children's Carnival Week are keen to ensure the safety of artists and participants in a virtual setting. Each partner involved is responsible for its' own safeguarding policies and artist vetting processes. It is important that teachers and group leaders take some time to go through the videos to assess the suitability for the children they are working with, prior to sharing the resources. UKCCA and the steering group do not accept responsibility for safeguarding procedures of other carnival organisations, but encourage everyone involved to put the safety of children at the forefront of their planning.  The steering groups signs up to the following principles:

  • recruitment processes and DBS checking of all artists appearing in videos or meetings via zoom or other digital platforms to be adhered to by the carnival organisation posting their videos

  • no online recording or sharing of children participating in live activities unless parent/carer/guardian permission is obtained

  • artists recording from home to consider protecting their own environment and do their own risk assessments for their workspace easy.
