UKCCA are pleased to be supporting the Irish Arts Conference taking today at London Irish Centre, Camden Square, London.
Organised by the Federation of Irish Societies, the national representative body for Irish organisations in Britain, and supported by UKCCA, this is the first national event of its kind to focus on building and investing in artistic and cultural skills amongst Irish communities across Britain.
The day will provide people with an opportunity to hear from arts and cultural experts and network with peers about developing and delivering high quality, innovative Irish arts and cultural events in Britain.
The event will also mark the launch of the Federation of Irish Societies Cultural Strategy in advance of the London Olympics 2012.
Jennie McShannon, Chief Executive of the Federation of Irish Societies highlighted:
“Made in Ireland marks a significant milestone in the journey of Irish cultural professionals living and working in Britain. For many years the Irish community has made a significant contribution to the cultural landscape of Britain through St Patrick’s Day Parades, Irish festivals and events. Individual Irish artists living and working in Britain have also contributed across many art-forms and genres.
This conference is a significant gathering of that talent. It is about bringing together a community to learn, celebrate and explore how to raise its profile, capture new audiences and further establish its place as a professional artistic community."
Paul Anderson, UKCCA CEO will be speaking at the event, welcoming artists who participated in the UKCCA Create Animate Masterclasses this month.
Paul adds, "St Patrick's Day events taking place across the world brings together people from every corner. The celebrations mark a day that has deep historical, religious and cultural roots. It's great to see how carnival and carnival arts continue to embellish these spectacular events. This is a testimony to carnival's relevance across cultures.
We are delighted to be building a strong partnership with the Federation of Irish Societies and supporting them to build recognition of the value that Irish art and celebration makes to all communities. This partnership will continue to strengthen in recognition for 'art' that takes place in our streets.
