I have recently submitted an article to the Art Professional Magazine. This forms one part of a 'conversation' with Andy Grove, Chair of the Local Authority Events Organisers Committee. Andy shares his views on the challenges faced by local authorities and the police in event management, and the role that organisers and local communities need to play to develop a solution to the rising costs and risks. My response is that the arts sector needs to develop this narrative to be about the arts as a major contributor to building a healthy, vibrant big society- a discussion that takes the primary emphasis of events away from managing crowds and risk, and refocusing this on bringing people together in unity and harmony - celebration.
